China’s first digital-only bank, WeBank serves over 300 million individual customers and 2.7 million small businesses, many of which have no traditional credit record.
Founded in 2014, and backed by Tencent, WeBank targets unbanked and underbanked individuals and SMEs with financial services that include loans, deposits, and investments.
WeBank has accessibility features on its app to ensure visually impaired citizens of the People’s Republic of China have easy access to banking services.
The WeBank App integrates biometric authentication, face anti-spoofing, artificial intelligence-powered speech synthesis, and real-time image processing. In addition, the open-source development framework of the app allows WeBank to share its experience with the industry to help improve accessibility. Again, allowing this collaboration to be open with other organizations, we can learn from each other.
